Procedure for Electing Student Leaders
Purpose
The purpose of this procedure is to ensure a fair and transparent process for electing student leaders who represent the student body in various College of Optometry Student Organizations and the decision-making processes. This procedure applies to all elections for student leadership positions at the College of Optometry
Nominee Eligibility

The nominee must be a registered student at the institution.

The nominee must meet the academic and behavioral standards set by the institution..

The nominee must submit a nomination form by the established deadline.
o The nomination form is completed through google/teams
o A letter of Intent must be submitted by each candidate
Nominations Process

The election committee will announce the opening of the nomination period at least 2 weeks before the election day.

Nominations can be submitted by any student who meets the eligibility criteria.

Nominees must complete a nomination form and a letter of intent.

Nominations will close one day before the election day. No further nominations will be accepted after the deadline.
Candidate Forums

Letters of Intent will be shared with the College of Optometry faculty and students.

During a designated time, candidates will have a chance to address the student body regarding their desire to hold the position and why they should be elected.
Voting Process

Only registered students in the current academic year are eligible to vote.

Voting will take place through online voting

Voters will be provided with a ballot that includes all candidates for each position.

Voting will be anonymous, and each student can vote only once per position.

Voting will begin online following the candidate forum or class meeting.

Voting will be open for four days.

In the case of online voting, students can only submit the google/teams form using their UMSL SSO id information, personal email addresses are prohibited.

Voting deadline will be provided by the student organization
Election Results

All votes are cast anonymously and tabulated by the Business Analyst for the College of Optometry.

Results shared with the College of Optometry student body, faculty, and staff by the Associate Dean of Student Services and Alumni Relations
Transition of Power
• An orientation session will be conducted by the Associate Dean of Student Services to familiarize the new student leaders with College of Optometry and campus policies at the beginning of the academic year
