The purpose of this honorary society is to recognize upperclassmen who have demonstrated outstanding professional and ethical attitudes through leadership in their class, college and profession. Members are selected during their 3rd professional year. There are currently many active Gold Key chapters throughout North America. Gold Key recognizes leadership in the class, the school, and the optometric profession. Membership in Gold Key is limited to no more than 10% of a class or 8 total members, whichever is greater. Members are selected by their fellow students. Membership is for life and each member receives a certificate of membership and a Gold Key lapel pin.
