Dr. Ashley Tary serves as Interim Associate Dean of Clinical Operations as a dedicated optometrist and educator who brings a community-focused approach to both clinical practice and academic leadership. With more than a decade of experience in private practice, she offers extensive expertise and real-world insight that enrich the educational experience of future optometrists. Returning to her alma mater has allowed her to combine her passion for patient care, mentorship, and service while helping shape the next generation of eye care professionals.
Dr. Tary is committed to fostering academic excellence, supporting student success, and advancing the mission of the institution. She is passionate about preparing students to become compassionate, skilled, and adaptable healthcare providers by helping them build strong foundations in both clinical competency and interpersonal communication. Her dedication to education reflects her belief in giving back to the profession and ensuring its continued growth and advancement.
In addition to her leadership responsibilities, Dr. Tary has a special interest in ocular disease. She is a strong advocate for early vision care and remains actively engaged in the profession through organizations such as the American Optometric Association, Missouri Optometric Association, and St. Louis Optometric Society.
Outside of her professional responsibilities, Dr. Tary enjoys spending weekends camping with her husband and two young daughters. Whether exploring new destinations or simply enjoying the outdoors, she values opportunities to connect with nature, recharge, and create lasting memories with her family. These experiences reflect her appreciation for balance, family, and the importance of nurturing meaningful relationships both personally and professionally.
