Dr. Emily Gum (Assistant Clinical Professor) graduated from Truman State University with a major in Exercise Science and a minor in Biology. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis where she graduated with honors. She was a member of the Gold Key International Optometric Honor Society as well as the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society and received the Missouri Optometric Foundation Award for Excellence in Clinical Skills. Dr. Gum completed a residency in Ocular Disease and Low Vision Rehabilitation at the Kansas City Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Dr. Gum’s optometric interests include ocular disease, low vision, and medical mission work. She traveled with a group of optometrists and ophthalmologists to Haiti in 2018 to provide eyecare. Dr. Gum has been a member of the American Optometric Association and Missouri Optometric Association as well as the Saint Louis Optometric Society where she currently serves on the membership committee.
