David R. Ganz is a native of Saint Louis.  He earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Saint Louis University, each with concentrations in accounting; and did post-graduate work in that field at the University of Missouri in Columbia.  He joined the faculty of the Saint Louis campus of the University of Missouri (UMSL) in 1966.  While at UMSL, in addition to teaching, he served as Dean of Student Affairs (1969 – 1972); as Coordinator of the Accounting program (1981 – 1987), and as Associate Dean and Director of Undergraduate Studies for the College of Business Administration (1988 – 2007). He recently completed fifty-five years of employment with the University of Missouri – Saint Louis.

Ganz received several of the campus’ awards for excellence: the Alumni Association’s Most Outstanding Faculty Member Award (1969); the Amoco Foundation Award for Excellence in Teaching (1976); the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Service (1994); a campus Distinguished Service Award (2002) and the UMSL Alumni Association’s You Make a Difference Award (2003).  In 2010 he was the initial inductee into the UMSL Accounting Hall of Fame.  He is an emeritus member of the American Accounting Association and a member of several honorary and professional organizations, including Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma and Beta Alpha Psi.  He has an extensive service record at UMSL and is active with several social and civic organizations in the St. Louis area.

During his post-graduate studies, Ganz did research on the development of the CPA profession in Missouri.  His research efforts served as background for a monograph published by the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA) as part of its 75th anniversary celebration.  In appreciation and recognition of his contribution, the Board of Directors of the MSCPA voted to bestow honorary membership on him in 1983.

His commitment to theatre and the arts in St. Louis is evidenced by his being a season ticket holder and supporter at the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis (Mainstage and Studio); the Broadway Series at the Fox; Opera Theatre of St. Louis; the Muny; Stages Saint Louis; and the Saint Louis Ballet.  He is also a proud member of the Missouri Botanical Garden, the Missouri Historical Society, the St. Louis Art Museum, the St. Louis Science Center and the St. Louis Zoo.

Ganz is active with his parish, Our Lady of Lourdes in University City, where he has been a parishioner since 1955.  He is a past member of the School Board, the Parish Council and the Parish Finance Committee; and has served as a lector and Eucharistic Minister.

Recent Board memberships include: Our Mother of Good Counsel Home, Kenrick-Glennon Seminary, St. Louis Community College Accounting Advisory Board, the Catholic Newman Center at UMSL, the UMSL Alumni Association, the UMSL College of Business Dean’s Leadership Council, and the UMSL Accounting Advisory Board.
