Welcome to UMSL | Economics!

A unique feature of our program is the opportunity to take a large number of courses in applied economics and data analysis. With this coursework, students acquire knowledge and a versatile set of skills that are highly valued in the workplace, as evidenced by the strong placements of our graduates. Students have the opportunity to take these courses through the BS, BS/MA, MA, and the new Certificate in Applied Econometrics and Data Analysis.

Economics is demanding but it is also very rewarding. Our faculty and staff are committed to your success. You will find small class sizes and faculty who are enthusiastic about the classes they are teaching and the related research they are doing. The department prides itself on the student mentoring environment it has established. Students work together in our Economic Resource Center (ERC), which offers peer tutoring and also serves as a University Computer lab, study, and meeting space. Working together enhances learning.

I encourage you to visit us in person at the department's main office in 408 SSB.  Also, feel free to stop by at the Economics Resource Center (452 SSB) to meet some of our current students.

Donald Kridel, Chair
Department of Economics
