Undergraduate Trauma Studies Certificate

Overview

The Trauma Studies Certificate is designed for students who are interested in a focused specialty in trauma studies or victim services in addition to their own major. It is appropriate for students in the College of Arts and Sciences or any of the schools of the university. It is particularly appropriate for students wishing to pursue careers in psychology, social work, sociology, criminology, law, public health, or nursing.


How to Begin

Undergraduate students may earn a Trauma Studies Certificate by:

  1. Completing the enrollment form. 
  2. Send complete enrollment form to jgscr7@umsystem.edu.
  3. Completing 18 hours with a GPA of 2.0 or better from at least three departments from the following courses.


Group A: Students must complete at least 12 hours from the following group

CRIMIN 1120 Criminal Law
CRIMIN 4300 Communities and Crime (Cross-listed with SOC 4300)
CRIMIN 4350 Victimology
PSYCH 2232 Psychology of Trauma (Cross-listed with GS 2232)
PSYCH 3280 The Psychology of Death and Dying (Cross-listed with GERON 3280)
PSYCH 3295* Selected Projects in Field Placement: Helping Victims of Crime (Up to 3 credits)
PSYCH 3390* Directed Studies: Trauma-related topics only (Up to 3 credits)
PSYCH 4398 Child Maltreatment: A Multidisciplinary Approach (Cross-listed with CAST/SOC WK 4398)
SOC 3250 Sociology of Victimization (Cross-listed with GS 3250)
SOC 3278 Sociology of Law
