M-149: De Pew Magazine Collection

HISTORY: Acquired by the library in the 1990´s this collection consisted of numerous general interest magazines accumulated over the years by the De Pew Family. Unlike most periodical housed in the library these remain unbound and in their original condition.

SCOPE: The collection consists primarily of the domestic issues of Life Magazine, and is a near complete run spanning the years of 1937-1973. Additionally there are a few issue of Life Magazine´s special overseas edition published specifically for the armed forces as well as a few individual issues of other general interest periodicals.

The collection is arranged into seven series based on title, within each series the collection has been arranged chronolocially. The description of each magazine is based on the cover photo pertaining to the specific issue.

Series 1: Life Magazine
By far the largest series this contains the domestic run of the magazine.

Series 2: Life Magazine Special Series/Editions
Collection of articles and covers of the magazine organized by special series of articles.

Series 3: Life Magazine Overseas Edition
Small run of isses published specifically for the U. S. Armed Forces

Series 4: Look Magazine

Series 5: Saturday Evening Post

Series 6: Time Magazine

Series 7: Various
Single issues of various other magazines in the collection

HOLDINGS: Approximately 1800 individual issues house in 48 boxes comprising approximately 72 linear feet of collections.

ACCESS: Some of the material in Special Collection M-149 may be photocopied, digitally scanned or photographed, subject to condition, use and copyright.
