To join the NAI as an Inventor Member, an inventor must be affiliated with a Member Institution, such as UMSL, and be a named inventor on one or more patents issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). In addition to regular membership, honorary membership is recognized. An annual meeting and recognition ceremony is held during the academic year and a list of members is published in order to enhance networking and recognition, and to provide an opportunity to share your experiences.
Regular Membership (Inventor Members)
The UMSL Chapter of the National Academy of Inventors is open to all members of the university community, including faculty, staff, alumni and affiliates, who have received an issued patent from the USPTO. An annual meeting and recognition ceremony will be held during the academic year and a list of members will be published, in order to enhance networking, recognition, and the opportunity to share your experiences. Membership in the NAI is available through local university chapters only. Chapter members are automatically enrolled as members of the NAI, with all rights and privileges thereof. For more information on the National Academy of Inventors, visit www.academyofinventors.org. In support of innovation at UMSL, the Office of Research Administration covers the annual membership dues for current employees and students. See current Inventor Members.
To apply for membership as an Inventor Member, please complete and submit the Inventor Member Application (fillable PDF).
Honorary Membership
The UMSL Chapter of the National Academy of Inventors recognizes members of the university community, including faculty, staff, alumni and affiliates, who materially support and advance technological development and innovation. Honorary members may not vote or hold office in the NAI.
To nominate an Honorary Member, email, fax or mail a summary (<1 page) of the nominee's contributions to advancing technological development and innovation, along with the nominee's name, title, organization, address, email address, and phone number to:
