Disability Scholarship Resources

All scholarships listed here are from outside sources and have no affiliation with the University of Missouri-St. Louis. They are set up with outside organizations that are geared towards helping individuals with disabilities. If you would like to apply for scholarships at UMSL, please visit Student Financial Aid and apply for their Competitive scholarships.

National Federation of the Blind Scholarship Program

The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) offers 30 scholarships to high achieving blind scholars. To be considered for this scholarship, the applicant have to be legally blind in both eyes, a U.S. resident, and pursing a full-time postsecondary degree program in a United States institution.

Association of Blind Citizens (ABC) Scholarship Program

The ABC offers legally blind student pursuing postsecondary degree programs the Reggie Johnson Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship can be applied towards tuition, living expenses or other expenses resulting from blindness.

American Federation for the Blind scholarships

The American Federation for the Blind (AFB) gives 4 different scholarship opportunities out every year for students attending a college or university who are legally blind.

Missouri Council of the Blind

The Missouri Council of the Blind offers scholarships to legally blind full time Missouri students who are pursing undergraduate and graduate level degrees. Scholarship is open from January to May.

American Council of the Blind

The American Council of the Blind presents more than two dozen scholarships and awards to outstanding blind students each year. All legally blind full-time students admitted to academic and vocational training programs at the post-secondary level may apply. A cumulative grade point average of 3.3 is generally required.

Annual Scholarship Trust for the Hearing Impaired

The Travelers Protective Association of America (TPA) established the TPA Scholarship Trust for the Hearing Impaired to provide financial assistance to U.S. residents who lack the necessary funds or resources to obtain mechanical devices, medical or specialized treatment, or specialized education and accommodations directly related to hearing impairment.

Paralyzed Veterans of America Scholarship

The Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) Scholarships are awards available to U.S. citizens who are members of the PVA. These member must be accepted or enrolled in accredited degree program at a U.S. college or university. These scholarships also extend to PVA members direct families (i.e. spouse and/or dependent children).

Scholarship Program for Amputee College Students

The National Amputation Foundation offers six scholarships to full time college students with major amputations. This scholarship, the Claude S. Weiler Scholarship for Amputee College Students provides scholarships amounts based on the number of applicants that apply.

Cystic Fibrosis Scholarship Foundation

The Cystic Fibrosis Scholarship Foundation provides young adults who suffer from Cystic Fibrosis the opportunity to further their education at a postsecondary institution or vocational school. These scholarships are awarded on a case-by-case bases and will fulfil different needs for different students.

Hydrocephalus Association Scholarships

The Hydrocephalus Association offers scholarships to young adults with hydrocephalus. Scholarship funds may be used for a four-year or junior college, a high school post-graduate year to prepare for college, a technical or trade school, an accredited employment-training program or a post-graduate program

Patient Advocate Foundation’s Scholarships for Survivors

The Patient Advocate Foundation offers a multitude of scholarships to students under than 25 who have been diagnosed with critical or life-threatening diseases (i.e. cancer, coronary artery disease, etc.) Funds from scholarships are to be used towards a college, university, or vocational-technical school tuition fees.

BioMatrix Scholarships

BioMatrix offers two Pharmacy Scholarship programs. The first is the Hylton & Ron Niederman Memorial Scholarship program that provide five scholarships for men with hemophilia or von Willebrand Disease and their immediate family members. The Millie Gonzalez Memorial Scholarship program provides two scholarships for women with hemophilia or von Willebrand Disease.

National Hemophilia Foundation’s Kevin Child Scholarship

The Kevin Child Scholarship awards annually awards to qualified students who has hemophilia in memory of Kevin Child, a young man who was born with hemophilia and died a few day shy of his graduation. Along with this scholarships, there are links for other hemophilic scholarships available. 

Lupus Inspiration Foundation for Excellence (L.I.F.E.)

Twice a year, the Lupus Inspiration Foundation for Excellence (L.I.F.E. Scholarship) awards twice a year scholarships to students who have been diagnosed with Systemic Lupus erythematosus (SLE). These scholarships are geared towards students who are working on accredited degrees from U.S. colleges.

The Andre Sobel Essay Award

The Andre Sobel River of Life Foundation offers annual essay awards to young survivors, between the ages of 12-21, who have survived a catastrophic illness.

Exceptionalnurse.com College Scholarship Awards

Multiple scholarships are awarded from ExceptionalNurse.com for highly qualified students with disabilities who are enrolled in nursing or nursing-educated programs.

Disability Care Center

The Disability Care Center offers a variety of scholarships for different forms of disabilities. The applicant must be enrolled in a full time accredited institution and must be able to verify disability.
