Awards and Scholarships

General Scholarship Criteria

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled full time at the University of Missouri St. Louis or transferring to UMSL as a declared language major.
  • Scholarships must be applied towards UMSL educational fees in the 2000 or higher level language courses or study-abroad trip, and used within one semester of the award.
  • To apply for any of the scholarships listed above you must apply through Student Financial Aid. The scholarship application deadline is February 1, each year.

Baldini Family Scholarship

  • Applicants must be pursuing a degree in Modern Language and teacher certification with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and may be of Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status. All other things being equal, preference shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need.
  • Scholarship amount can vary based on available funds and it is awarded annually. 

German Scholarship

  • Applicants must be pursuing a major or minor in Modern Languages at UMSL with an emphasis in German.
  • This scholarship is open to incoming freshmen and transfer students as well as current UMSL students.
  • Scholarship amounts will vary based on available funds.

Marcus Allen Memorial Scholarship

  • Preference is given to French majors and is awarded on a competitive basis.
  • Scholarship amount can vary based on available funds but is typically $600.

Modern Language Alumni Scholarship

  • Applicants must be a junior or senior language major with at least six hours of language at UMSL with a GPA of 3.5 in the language (3.0 overall cumulative GPA).
  • Scholarship amount can vary based on available funds but is typically $600.

Allen B. and Helen S. Shopmaker Scholarship

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled full time at the University of MIssouri-St. Louis pursuing a degree in Modern Language with a concentration in Spanish.
