May 6, 2024 - Celebrating the close of our 60th academic year

Dear UMSL Community,

We are just a few days away from the close of our 2023-24 academic year at the University of Missouri–St. Louis — a year that marked the 60th anniversary of our university by celebrating the indelible impact our graduates and university have not only here in the St. Louis region, but throughout the state, nation and world.

We first launched our 60th anniversary celebration at the start of the fall semester with Red and Gold Day, which brought hundreds of people together to showcase our impact and reach. Since then, we have celebrated this milestone moment by highlighting 60 distinguished alumni who represent classes throughout our history, completed more than 60,000 hours of volunteer work through our UMSL Serves initiative, and hosted many keynote speakers and signature events along the way.

We will culminate our 60th academic year on Friday and Saturday at the end of this week as we celebrate our newest UMSL graduates during Spring Commencement. Our spring ceremonies will recognize a graduating class of more than 1,400 who will join their peers from the summer and fall semesters. This academic year alone, more than 2,770 graduates will join our outstanding UMSL alumni network which is more than 115,000 strong.

Congratulations to our soon-to-be graduates! We are excited to welcome you into the UMSL Alumni Association and to see what you will accomplish as you build your careers and impact your communities. To our continuing students, I encourage you to maintain your focus and keep moving forward toward the transformative moment when you too will join the ranks of UMSL alumni.

I want to sincerely thank our dedicated staff and faculty who work each and every day to advance our university community. You truly transform lives through your focus on excellence in teaching, research and service. Thank you for bringing the very best of us to support our mission to transform lives.

I look forward to this weekend’s commencement ceremonies and hope that you will join us as we welcome our newest Triton graduates.
