Talent management involves attracting and retaining high-quality employees, developing their skills, monitoring their performance and identifying advancement opportunities throughout their employee life cycle. Talent managers are tasked with locating professionals with specific skillsets, training and onboarding, and talent retention. Talent management professionals understand the value of their people and develop strategies to keep employees motivated and engaged.

Employed in nearly every industry, talent managers are needed to ensure that firms are attracting and retaining the most effective talent in order to help companies, organizations, governments and nonprofits succeed. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of human resources managers is projected to grow seven percent from 2018 to 2028.

The Graduate Certificate in Talent Management

The Graduate Certificate in Talent Management is a 12-credit-hour program that can be completed in as little as two semesters (taking 6 credit hours per semester) or up to four semesters (taking 3 credit hours per semester). It’s designed for professionals currently working in Human Resources or those who plan to take on an HR role. Those interested in enhancing their HR competencies to meet current workplace challenges will find the program prepares them well to advance in their careers.

Throughout the program, students will develop a strong understanding of successful strategies for recruiting, selecting and retaining employees, and will examine topics such as performance appraisal, training, development, compensation, legal issues and labor relations. They will learn to use the knowledge they attain to function more effectively as a manager and as an employee. Having developed a deeper appreciation of the complexity of human resources management issues in contemporary organizations, those who complete this program will be well positioned to advance into a talent management or similar leadership role.
