The Department
The Police Department is an integral part of the University of Missouri - Saint Louis. The department works closely with Parking and Transportation to ensure parking regulations are enforced on campus. Working in concert with the University community, the Police Department will strive to ensure that the University of Missouri - Saint Louis is a safe and pleasant environment where people can live, work, and pursue their educational goals. It is the duty of the University police officer to maintain the peace and keep order. Uniformed Police Officers patrol the campus 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The University of Missouri - Saint Louis Police Department is organized much like any other police agency. Chief Robert Roeseler directs the department and by a combination of personnel involvement, leadership, and vision, has created a police agency well suited to solve the problems of today and anticipate necessary changes for the future. A Lieutenant and three Sergeants assist the Chief of Police in achieving the department’s goals and objectives. Uniformed Police Officers respond to calls for service, conduct criminal investigations, traffic and parking enforcement and accident investigations. A Detective assists Police Officers with their investigations. The department’s communications facility is the gateway for all requests for service from the campus community. Commissioned officers of the University of Missouri - Saint Louis Police Department have full police authority and are certified by the Missouri Department of Public Safety. Officers attend training at the St. Louis County Municipal Police Academy and other facilities to enhance their skills and maintain their state certification.
The University of Missouri - Saint Louis Police Department is dedicated to providing the best possible service to the campus community. The department is sensitive to the needs and expectations of the campus community and visitors. If you are not satisfied with the conduct or service provided by an officer of this department, you should contact the on-duty Watch Supervisor immediately. You will be asked to prepare a "Citizen Complaint Summary Form" documenting the facts and circumstances of your complaint. ALL COMPLAINTS ARE INVESTIGATED. One of the Sergeants or the Lieutenant, who serves as the department’s Internal Affairs Manager, will investigate the complaint. You will be informed in writing of the results of the investigation. You have a right to be protected and treated with dignity by members of the University of Missouri - Saint Louis Police Department. Our policy on citizen complaints is one avenue by which the Chief of Police can ensure the department performs its mission and the members adhere to our statement of values. In 2006 there were no citizen complaints against University of Missouri - Saint Louis Police officers.
