Dear University Community,

UMSL Facilities Management continues to move our Transform UMSL initiatives forward as we reimagine and redefine our campus footprint through targeted investments. This initiative is a coordinated campus master planning approach that spans five years and includes more than $100 million in public and private investments to reimagine and redefine our campus footprint. Here are some updates that showcase our recent progress.

Tour the new UMSL Geospatial Advanced Technology Lab

This semester, we completed a new Geospatial Advanced Technology Lab on the fourth floor of Benton Hall – supported by a $1 Million MoExcels Workforce Initiative Grant from the state to match our campus investment. This space consists of a GIS lab and a virtual reality lab, as well as office space, a conference room and collaborative workspaces.

The GIS lab has more than 20 workstations complete with high-end computers equipped with the latest and best software for geospatial research and analysis. The VR lab has GIS gathering tools like drones and, Spot, the Agile mobile robot dog. This is part of our investment to support the region’s growing geospatial field.

New and Upcoming Highlights

  • Social Sciences and Business Building (SSB) elevator construction is in progress and on schedule to be completed by the first quarter of 2024.

  • Design efforts related to the SSB Tower deconstruction are nearly complete and we will go out to bid this winter. Deconstruction of the tower will begin once the new SSB elevator is operational.

  • Early selective demolition has started at the Arts Administration Building (AAB). This first step at AAB will pave the way for the full renovation work to begin in the first quarter of 2024.
