Reporting on Sustainability Initiatives

A Comprehensive View of Sustainability at UMSL

The UMSL Sustainability Office compiles information on sustainability initiatives on and around campus. We've started to catch people "green-handed," but we know that every day students and staff are taking steps to lighten their impact on the environment. We'd love to hear about what you're doing!

For more information about our sustainability goals, please review the initial Campus Sustainability Action Plan and note how far we've come.

Reporting for the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment

Joining the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) was a vital step toward defining and pursuing sustainability policy and practices. The Campus Sustainability Action Plan was originally drafted to uphold that commitment, but now the Action Plan serves as the best documentation of our goals, objectives, and most importantly, our aspirations.

The University also has submitted greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories and progress reports on its steps to carbon neutrality to the ACUPCC, and later to Second Nature, when that organization assumed the ACUPCC responsibilities. The most recent and comprehensive inventory to date covered 2002-2012. Past reports can be found on the Second Nature reporting platform, although the University no longer participates in Second Nature activities or pays that organization dues. We anticipate updating the GHG inventory in 2022 (to cover 2012-2022) and may update more frequently if staff time allows.

STARS and Other Reporting Tools

In the future, UMSL will use the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System as a reporting tool to disclose information about its progress. If you would like to assist with this project, please contact the Sustainability Office!
