Resources for Poster Presentations

Design

Posters will vary greatly depending on your research field and personal preferance. With that being said, there are some general guidlines to follow.

  • Lay your poster out like a story. People naturally read from left to right and top to bottom, and your poster should follow this pattern.
  • Do not fill you poster with

Size Options

Different academic disciplines have different poster size requirements. Because URS is open to all disciplines, we do not believe in requiring a particular size of poster. However, the URS team can only provide 30”h x 40”w and 32”h x 40”w poster boards for your display. If you need a foam board of a different size, you will need to provide it.

Display:

We will have binder clips available for you to use to attach your poster to a foam board. If you prefer to use other adhesives, you are free to bring those. Also, we do need the foam boards to be returned at the end of the event. Standard size easels will be provided for displaying your poster.

Funding:

Please remember to stay in contact with your mentor about any processes, procedures, or deadlines that you need to follow if funding for your poster comes from your mentor, the department or college of your major, research grant, etc. Those will be unique to each individual student. If you request printing funding from the URS, you must attend one of the poster workshops conducted by Dr. Jodi Heaps, have your poster printed in UMSL’s print shop, and provide a final copy of your poster to UMSL’s Institutional Repository Library. The URS team will be in touch with workshop attendees after the final workshop is concluded. The workshops are open to everyone, regardless of your funding source.
