In order to be a Recognized RSO, your group must complete the New RSO process administered by the Office of Student Involvement. If your organization is already recognized, then you will complete the annual renewal process.
RENEWING A CURRENT RSO
Each academic year, the OSI requires that all RSOs renew their organization with the university. This process must be completed annually in May. Failure to complete the annual renewal process will result in your organization losing recognized status with UMSL and the corresponding rights & resources. To maintain this recognition given during the renewal process:
- At least two officers, preferably the President and Treasurer, from the organization must attend the annual Triton Leadership Experience (TLE) Training.
- Complete the Mid - Year report on Triton Connect.
- Faculty/Staff Advisor must attend the advisor training.
- Complete the Student Organization annual renewal process each Spring.
INACTIVE STATUS
If your student organization is inactive, that means that it has lost all privileges including accessing funds and reserving space on campus. A student organization may be declared inactive for several reasons, including, but not limited to:
- Choosing to temporarily pause student organization activities.
- Failure to complete Annual Renewal process.
- Failure to comply with any OSI or RSO requirements each year.
- If a student organization is inactive for one academic semester, the organization may regain recognition by completing the RSO Reactivation Form on Triton Connect and meeting all reactivation requirements established by the Office of Student Involvement.
- If a student organization remains inactive for two consecutive academic years, the organization will lose its previous recognition status and must complete the New Recognized Student Organization (RSO) Recognition Process to become recognized again. This process includes meeting all current requirements for establishing a new student organization.
SUSPENDED STATUS
If your student organization is suspended, that means that it has lost all privileges including programming funds and reserving space on campus. A student organization may be declared suspended for several reasons, including, but not limited to:
- Violating the Student Code of Conduct
- Removal from campus due to policy violations
- Compliance with request from national sponsoring organization or UMSL Administration
