Group therapy offers unique benefits including developing new skills, increasing motivation, along with promoting mutual support and encouragement. Across a range of presenting concerns, group therapy can help individuals learn new skills and replace old, less helpful, habits. The group format allows members to not only learn from the facilitators, but also learn from each other. Because the format allows a clinician to work with several individuals at the same time, groups are much more affordable than individual psychotherapy.
Group therapy focuses on the management of a variety of specific problems and is held in various formats. For example, our Trauma 101 Group involves a series of four 75-minute sessions focused on skills to cope with traumatic experiences and to better understand Trauma. After completing those four group sessions, individuals can request access to an individual therapist for more detailed work on improving trauma symptoms. Our Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) Skills group (one for teens and their parents) helps members progress in learning and applying coping skills to daily life stressors. Clients progress through a workbook alongside their guardians until graduating from the program. Click here for more information on our DBT group.
Our Managing Stress and Anxiety group focuses on coping with daily life stress through cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). This program does not require a diagnosis as it helps clients cope with a variety of mental health issues and negative emotions. Click here for more information about this group.
Interested individuals are encouraged to ask our CPS intake staff about groups that may be helpful for their specific concerns.
