Export Controls and Sanctions

The U.S. government regulates the distribution of strategically important products, services and information to foreign nationals and foreign countries for reasons of national security and foreign policy under rules collectively called "Export Controls." This includes university research (funded by federal agencies and/or other sources) that may have a detrimental effect on U.S. security. Foreign nationals are restricted from all Department of Defense grants.

Export controls and sanctions compliance fall under Research Security and Compliance at the UM System.  Download the Research Security and Export Controls Information Sheet.
