International Fellowships

UMSL Global’s 2026 International Fellowship Program is now closed.

UMSL Global’s International Fellowship Program is designed to advance UMSL’s internationalization efforts by supporting collaborative international research and creative work. The program provides targeted, one-time awards of up to $5,000 to support summer activities that are not otherwise funded by departments or existing grants.

This Fellowship is intended to benefit all faculty engaged in research or projects with an international focus and who may need additional support to carry out or present their work.

Fellowship Terms and Requirements:

• Application, Notification, and Award Acceptance
  • Upon submission, your application will be forwarded to the UMSL Global International Fellowship Review Committee
  • Once decisions are made, you will receive updates from Kuali Notifications (no-reply@kuali.umsl.edu)
  • After submission, all notifications, receipt submissions, reimbursement approvals, and required follow-up will occur through the Kuali Build application
  • Fellows must review their Fellowship details and indicate their acceptance or declination of the award within two weeks of their initial notification
• Use of Funds
  • All Fellowship funds must be used and reconciled by September 1, 2026
  • Fellowship funds may not be used to cover a partner’s expenses
    • This includes purchasing flights for international collaborators to travel to the U.S.
  • Fellowship funds may not be used for technology purchases for either the award recipient or international partners
• Travel Requirements
  • Fellows must complete a travel authorization with their College/Department
  • If traveling internationally, Fellows must register their travel with the University
• Reimbursement and Financial Procedures
  • The Fellowship operates on an expense reimbursement basis
  • Funds will be distributed through a designated MoCode, which must be used when submitting expenses through the UM System’s reimbursement process
  • All receipts must be approved by the Fellowship Review Committee before reimbursement can be requested using the Fellowship MoCode
• Post-Award Reporting
  • Upon exhaustion of Fellowship funds, Fellows will receive a task email to complete a review and provide feedback
  • Fellows will also receive a task email around December 1 to complete a chek-in report

Fellows who do not adhere to the full terms provided in the application or complete all required steps may not be eligible for future funding through the UMSL Global International Fellowship.
