Event Schedule

8:30 – 9:00 AM | Registration & Welcome

  • Students check in at MSC Century Room C.
  • Hand out name tags, activity maps, and schedule.
  • Light refreshments available.

9:00 – 10:00 AM | Opening Speeches

  • 9:00 – 9:15 AM | Dean’s Welcome Speech
    • Overview of UMSL Engineering programs, vision, and excitement for Explore Engineering Day.
    • Location: MSC Century Room C
  • 9:15 – 9:30 AM | University Advising & Support Key Speaker
    • Presented by Dr. Carla Jordan and Iriah Wilkerson.
    • Overview of academic advising, student support services, and resources for engineering students at UMSL.
    • Location: MSC Century Room C
  • 9:30 – 9:40 AM | Mechanical Engineering (ME) Overview
    • Highlights of the ME program, lab opportunities, and student projects.
    • Location: MSC Century Room C
  • 9:40 – 9:50 AM | Civil Engineering (CE) Overview
    • Highlights of the CE program, lab opportunities, and student projects.
    • Location: MSC Century Room C
  • 9:50 – 10:00 AM | Electrical Engineering (EE) Overview
    • Highlights of the EE program, research opportunities, and hands-on experiences.
    • Location: MSC Century Room C

10:00 – 11:00 AM | Activity Rotation 1

Students divided into small groups to rotate between activities:

  • Bridge-Building Contest
    • Materials: Popsicle sticks, spaghetti, glue, small weights.
    • Students design and test bridges for strength.
    • Location: MSC Room 315
  • 3D Printing Station
    • Live demo of printing UMSL logos or mini-engineering models.
    • Students can see CAD-to-print process.
    • Location: MSC Room 316
  • Circuit Play – ESP32 Mini-Projects
    • Build small circuits with lights, buzzers, or sensors.
    • Instructor-led demo with hands-on participation.
    • Location: MSC Room 316

11:00 – 11:30 AM | Snack, Networking & Engineering Trivia

  • Light snacks and drinks provided.
  • Students can mingle with faculty, engineering students, and club representatives while enjoying refreshments.
  • Engineering Trivia:
    • Participate in quick, fun rounds of engineering-related trivia with small prizes.
    • Interactive group competition encourages teamwork and friendly rivalry.
  • Location: MSC Century Room C

11:30 AM – 12:30 PM | RoboCar Race & Student Panel

  • RoboCar Race (ENGR 1414 students)
    • Students watch or drive mini RoboCars along a track.
    • Teams compete in timed challenges for fun and prizes.
    • Location: MSC Room 316 (or hallway if more space is needed)
  • Student Panel Discussion
    • After the RoboCar Race, a panel of student representatives will share their experiences and life at UMSL.
    • Students can ask questions and learn about academic programs, campus life, and engineering opportunities.

12:30 – 12:45 PM | Closing & Awards

  • Announce winners of:
    • Bridge-Building Contest
    • RoboCar Race
    • Engineering Trivia
  • Certificates or small prizes for participants.
  • Group photo opportunity.
