February 21, 2024 - UM Board of Curators approves UMSL Strategic Plan

Dear UMSL Community,

We are pleased to share that the University of Missouri Board of Curators officially approved UMSL’s latest five-year strategic plan this month. The updated plan is a continuation of our successful strategic plan that was last approved in 2018 and will guide our collective efforts through the 2028 academic year.

The final approval of the UMSL Strategic Plan 2023-2028 represents the close of a 15-month collaborative process that drew input from hundreds of internal and external constituents and benefited from the guidance of more than 75 UMSL staff and faculty who served as leads within key areas. While staying true to the UM System’s five compacts of excellence that guided our prior plan, the 2023-2028 strategic plan is based on six core objectives that include associated actions and metrics as this work begins:

  1. Elevate Recruitment and Retention,

  2. Shape the Workforce of the Future,

  3. Generate New Knowledge,

  4. Build a Robust Campus Community,

  5. Advance St. Louis as an Anchor Institution, and

  6. Develop Stewardship and Vitality.

The plan also remains true to our six core values – trust, inclusion, innovation, access, success and engagement – and is designed to employ metrics and actions targeting specific goals. While the plan is seeded with several actions and metrics based on current activities, an annual process will be tied to the budget process to review current and propose new actions and metrics as our work progresses. We encourage you to review the updated plan with initial actions and metrics on the UMSL Strategic Plan 2023-2028 website.

Thank you to everyone who supported this comprehensive and collaborative effort to establish a bold and expansive plan to guide our collective actions for the next five years and beyond.

Gratefully forward,
