Admission Requirements for Freshmen

Minimum Requirements for First-Time College Students from High School:


1.   Required High School Units: (1 Unit = 1 year in class)

4   Units of English
4   Units of Mathematics (Algebra 1 or Higher)
3   Units of Science (Must include a lab science; cannot include general science)
3   Units of Social Science
1   Unit of Fine Arts
2   Units of a Single Foreign Language
   


 

 

 

2.   Required Minimum Combinations of Percentile Rank in Graduating High School Class and Admission Test (ACT or SAT) score are as follows:

If the ACT Composite Score is 24 or higher or the total of SAT Verbal and Math scores is 1090 or higher, then the applicant meets the minimum requirement for admission.

If the ACT Composite score is between 17 and 23 or the total of SAT Verbal and Math scores is between 810 and 1080, then the applicant must meet the following high school class rank requirements to be admitted:

3.  If you:

A.  Rank in the top 10% of your graduating class of a Missouri high school and

B.  Complete the college preparatory curriculum that includes at least 17 units of credit (four units each of English and math, three units of social studies, three units of science, two units of a single foreign language, and one unit of fine art), and

C.  Submit an ACT/SAT score,

You will be eligible for automatic admission to any campus of the University of Missouri.

4. If you:

A.  Graduate from a Missouri high school that does not rank its graduates, but

B.  Have taken a college preparatory curriculum that includes at least 17 units of credit (four units each of  English and math, three units of social studies, three units of science, two units of a single foreign language, and one unit of fine art) and

C.  Achieve a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale in these core courses and

D.  Submit an ACT/SAT score,

You will be eligible for automatic admission to any campus of the University of Missouri.

Have you already earned 24 or more credit hours from an accredited institution?  If yes, you can be admitted as a transfer student.

The admission requirements described here are minimum requirements established by the University of Missouri's Board of Curators. Individual programs may choose to impose additional requirements. Students who fall short of the minimum requirements may be admitted if they can present evidence of likely success.

Regular, Full-Time Admission of Recent High School Graduates require the completion of 17 units of high school credit (1 unit = 1 year in class) and a combination of percentile rank in graduating high school class and an ACT or SAT test score consistent with the Coordinating Board for Higher Education's selective category.

Applying for Undergraduate Admission

Here's what you need to do to apply for undergraduate admission:

  • Complete and submit an Undergraduate Application (you can apply online).
  • Submit $35 non refundable application fee ($40 for international students).
  • Have Admission Test Score (ACT or SAT) sent to the Admissions Office.
  • Have a High School Transcript (including class rank and showing successful completion of required high school units as shown sent to the Admissions Office.

High School Equivalency Applicants
Individuals may seek admission on the basis of passing the General Education Development (GED) test with a minimum score of 2500 (for tests taken after January 1, 2002; a minimum score of 250 required for tests taken prior to January 1, 2002).

In addition, the following must be presented:

  • A completed Undergraduate Application (available online)
  • A $35 non refundable Application Fee ($40 for international students)
  • ACT Composite score of at least 24 or SAT Composite of at least 1090
  • A high school transcript if ACT/SAT scores are present
Home-Schooled Students

UM-St. Louis welcomes home-schooled students.  To be considered for undergraduate admission, the home-schooled student must present the following:

  • A completed Undergraduate Application available online
  • $35 non refundable Application Fee ($40 for international students)
  • ACT composite score of 24 or SAT of 1090
  • A copy of course of study or transcript reflecting all coursework and grades earned, if available
  • If an applicant has not acquired all units of work required for a high school diploma in Missouri, the applicant must also provide a test score report of the General Education Development (GED) test with a minimum score of 2500 (for test taken after January 1, 2002; minimum score of 250 for tests taken prior to January 1, 2002).
