Students have the responsibility to provide the University with official documentation of any disability that may affect the outcome of testing. The Testing Center proctors tests for students with extended testing time, reduced-distraction environment, and other accommodations. Please note that the Office of Disability Access Services is solely responsible for determining if a student is eligible to receive any special testing accommodations.

Registration: Students in online courses that use SmarterProctoring will use SmarterProctoring in Canvas to schedule tests at the Testing Center (download a step-by-step guide!). For tests that do not utilize SmarterProctoring, please visit our registration site.

ACT On-Campus (formerly ACT Residual) is a program available to students who are unable to take the ACT test on a regularly scheduled national date and are in the application process at UMSL, have been admitted to UMSL, or are currently enrolled at UMSL. Please note that scores obtained from On-Campus testing cannot be transferred by transcript or any other means to any other institution. Testing cannot be repeated within 60 days.

CLEP Logo

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) offers subject examinations for credit in specific areas. Students who have gained knowledge outside of the regular classroom have the option to earn credit for and bypass a variety of undergraduate general education courses, like U.S. History I, General Biology, Introductory Psychology, and more. Consultation with an academic advisor is strongly advised before registering for CLEP testing.

Registration: After purchasing the test from the CLEP website, visit the Testing Center registration site to schedule an appointment.

The Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Examination (CPCE) is a comprehensive counseling exam that Graduate Counseling students take before or in tandem with the National Counselor Exam. The CPCE-AB is offered once per semester at a reduced cost through arrangements with the Counseling department. For more information about this option, please get in touch with Dr. So Rin Kim at sorinkim@umsl.edu.

The CPCE is also available to schedule year-round through Pearson VUE.

The ETS Major Field Tests (MFT) are comprehensive outcomes assessments designed to measure the critical knowledge and understanding obtained by students in a specified academic major. The departments of Mathematics and Sociology currently utilize the Major Field Test as a degree capstone requirement. The test is taken during the student's final semester.

The University of Missouri-St. Louis requires that all students take a mathematics placement assessment to determine readiness for various courses. The required test is MyMathTest from Pearson Publishing. For more information, see the Math Placement webpage.

Meazure Learning, formerly known as Scantron and Castle Worldwide, provides certification and licensure testing for a variety of organizations, including the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), American Council on Exercise (ACE), Certified in Public Health (CPH), Rehabilitation Nursing Certification Board, and more.

Important MAT Announcement for Future Testing Cycles: The final Miller Analogies Test (MAT) testing cycle will be offered until November 15, 2023. No MAT testing dates, MAT Practice Tests, and Study Guides will be offered after November 15, 2023. All test-takers may continue to request official transcripts and personal score reports through the Pearson website until November 2025.

 

The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is an test that measures the analytical skills of candidates to determine the relationships between different subject areas and the ability of the brain to make connections. Some graduate programs require either a GRE or MAT score.

Candidates seeking entry into a Missouri educator preparation program must achieve a passing score on the Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA). Candidates with fewer than 60 semester hours and seeking a paraprofessional position to work in special education and/or Title I settings in Missouri must achieve a passing score on the Paraprofessional Test. Candidates seeking educator certification in Missouri are required to achieve a passing score on the appropriate Missouri Content Assessment(s)
