Transforming UMSL: North Campus Update

Campus Community,
Construction work has started on north campus for this spring’s electrical distribution project. We anticipate disruptive sidewalk closures from now until the end of Spring break, March 30, to facilitate this critical upgrade to our electrical infrastructure. The areas in yellow will be disrupted during construction, but our intent is to keep as many pathways open as possible during the project.
Sidewalks will be removed so that new power & data cables, conduit, duct banks, and manholes can be installed. Construction will be phased and sidewalks will be reopened once work is complete in a particular area. Below is an outline of what to expect for each phase.
Steps for Construction Phases:
-
Communicate upcoming phase to the campus
-
Close section of sidewalk and deploy signage
-
Mobilize contractor to remove sidewalks and dig
-
Install power & data cables, conduit, duct banks, manholes
-
Pour new concrete to encase the new equipment and reestablish pathways
-
Reopen sidewalks to foot traffic
Phase 1: area outside of Lucas Hall and Clark Hall.
Facilities will better define upcoming phases once we are able to observe how long Phase 1 takes.
Please review the detour video and wayfinding map that have been developed to assist the campus community with navigating north campus during this project. Facilities Management appreciates your patience as we transform UMSL from the ground up.

In addition to the Phase 1 work area near Clark & Lucas, we will also have two small areas outside of ESH and Lucas Hall fenced off to begin hydro excavation near the two buildings on Thursday morning, February 13. Accessible pathways between ESH, Lucas, and ABH will remain open but the contractors will have a visible presence.
Sincerely,
UMSL Facilities Management
