UMSL Space Planning

Space Planning and Signage Requests

UMSL Planning, Design, and Construction (PD&C) manages space planning and signage requests across campus to ensure the university’s physical resources are used effectively, strategically, and in support of institutional goals. The process below applies to all space requests, exterior signage, wayfinding signage, and exterior/interior graphics.

Signage

Departments requesting signage should engage UMSL Marketing & Communications early in the development process. Market & Communications will assist in developing signage with appropriate branding and messaging for campus.

Signage included within large capital projects will be developed by PD&C and Marketing & Communications. Signage packages will be reviewed by the Campus Infrastructure Strategy and Space Planning Committee for final approval. This includes exterior signage, wayfinding signage, and exterior/interior graphics related to projects.

Space Request

If your department needs additional space or plans to modify the use of an existing space, a Space Request Form must be submitted. Requests should be initiated and approved by the appropriate Dean or Vice Chancellor before being sent for review by the Campus Infrastructure Strategy & Space Planning Committee for consideration.

Once received, UMSL Facilities will confirm that the appropriate Vice Chancellor reviews the request. The Vice Chancellor will present the space request to the Campus Infrastructure Strategy & Space Planning Committee for consideration. Final approval is determined by the Chancellor’s Office, based on those recommendations and alignment with campus priorities.
