UMSL Space Planning

Space Planning and Requests at UMSL

UMSL Planning, Design, and Construction (PDC) manages space planning and allocation across campus to ensure the university’s physical resources are used effectively, strategically, and in support of institutional goals.

If your department needs additional space or plans to modify the use of an existing space, a Space Request Form must be submitted. Requests should be initiated and approved by the appropriate Dean or Vice Chancellor before being sent to Facilities Management for review.

Once received, Facilities Management conducts an analysis and forwards recommendations to the Physical Facilities Committee. Final approval is determined by the Chancellor’s Office, based on those recommendations and alignment with campus priorities.

How to Request Space

  1. Download and complete the Space Request Form

  2. Obtain approval from your Dean or Vice Chancellor

  3. Email the completed form to Facilities Management at UMSL, Facilities Planning

  4. Include relevant details such as:

    • Purpose of the request

    • Number of people impacted

    • Preferred location

    • Any special space requirements

Space requests are reviewed in the context of current space inventory, campus needs, and the campus master plan. All requests are evaluated collaboratively to ensure alignment with strategic goals and responsible use of university resources.
