Certified Financial Planner™ Certification Exam

  1. Fill out an application for admission to University of Missouri - St. Louis. This can be done online or by filling out an application obtained from the Admissions Office by calling (314) 516-UMSL.
  2. If you are taking these courses to qualify for the CFP (TM) exam and you don't seek to earn a degree, you should apply as a non-degree seeking undergraduate student.
  3. Choose your classes. To be eligible to sit for the CFP (TM) exam, you must successfully complete the following seven courses:
ACCTNG 3441 Income Taxes
FINANCE 3520 Investments
FINANCE 3560 Practice of Personal Financial Planning
FINANCE 3561 Principles of Insurance
FINANCE 3563 Retirement Planning and Employee Benefits
FINANCE 3564 Estate Planning and Trust
FINANCE 3565 Seminar in Financial Planning

The semester schedule is available on-line on the course schedule in  MyGateway. The courses listed above are not all offered every semester. It's important that you take them when they are available.

Once you are admitted, register for your classes. This can be done on-line through MyGateway or in person at either the Registration Office or at the College of Business Administration Academic Advising Office (107 ABH). For directions on registering online, check out the UMSL Registration website for more details.

Stop by the Cashier's Office to pay for your courses, the University Bookstore to pick up your textbooks, and the Center for Student to obtain a student ID card.
