Writers in the Schools (WITS)
UMSL is proud to offer our Writers in the Schools (WITS) program. We offer area schools the chance to connect with working writers for the benefit of students. Our writers can provide lessons on a variety of topics and themes, as well as writing activities and discussions. We have given presentations on Tone, Dialogue, Character, The Writing Process, Publishing, and more.
Aside from more formalized activities or lessons, WITS is a chance to have students meet real, working writers. Students will have the opportunity to learn what both graduate study, and a career in writing looks like. We will bring copies of Natural Bridge, our nationally distributed literary journal, and give students the opportunity to ask our writers questions.
If you are interested in a presentation, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Let us know what type of class you would like us to visit, and what topics you would like us to discuss and we will be happy to work with you to provide the best experience for your students.
If you are interested in helping WITS, visiting classrooms and giving presentations, please sign up for our mailings list. You will receive notifications of upcoming presentations, and can sign up to participate. Thank you very much for your interest. We cannot run our WITS program without you.
