Advanced Leaders is a 11-week program designed to enhance the skills of student leaders beyond the introductory level leadership topics. Participants gain concrete experiences consisting of workshops, site visits and a mock interview and resume critique with career services, active observations through weekly reflections, abstract conceptualization through the development of an action plan, and active experimentation by applying these skills within their organizations and today’s presentation of their leadership portfolios.

The Advanced Leaders curriculum is grounded in the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership: 

Participant Qualifications
Membership is limited to UMSL students of junior, senior, and graduate student status.  Sophomore students who have completed the Emerging Leaders Program are also invited to apply. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Applications open in Fall 2016.

  • Enhanced leadership skill development and training
  • Opportunity to network with top level management in the STL area
  • Ability to articulate your extracurricular experiences to future employers
  • Collaboration with other engaged student leaders
  • Advanced Leaders graduates are honored at the Student Leadership Awards
  • Attend all workshops/site visits (participants may miss up to two sessions and still graduate from program)
  • Complete weekly reflections
  • Complete mock interview and resume critique with Career Services 
  • Create and present a leadership portfolio
