Welcome to Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment!
We are extremely excited that you are interested in joining on of our three Panhellenic sororities! Panhellenic sororities have a formal recruitment period at the beginning of each Fall semester. Although it may feel early to think about getting involved in a sorority or student organizations in general, getting involved early can help students be more successful inside and outside the classroom. We strongly encourage you to make the most of your time at UMSL and joining a sorority can be one of the best decisions you will make! More information about Sorority Recruitment is listed below. If you have any other questions you can contact the Office of Student Life at (314)516-5291.
There are three different rounds to Sorority Recruitment:
Chapter Visit Round (September 4th & 5th): During these three events you will have the opportunity to learn more about each chapter. Each event is dedicated to one of the pillars of Sorority Life: Academics & Campus Involvement, Philanthropy & Service, and Sisterhood. So that you have as much information from each of the three Panhellenic chapters, we strongly encourage you to attend all chapters’ events. You must vist each chapter at least two times between Thursday and Friday night. We realize you may have other commitments, just make sure that you visit each chapter on two of the first three times. If you have any scheduling concerns, just email email@example.com or talk to your Rho Chi (Recruitment Counselor) and she will help you.
September 4th: 4pm-8pm
September 5th: 10am-1pm & 4pm-8pm
Invitation Round (September 6th): Invitation Round is a chance to get to know the sororities on a more personal level. It is slightly more formal than the previous visits and gives you an opportunity to get to know the women on a deeper level. Each event is scheduled and only open to those who receive invitations. Attendance at all Invitation events to which you are invited is mandatory to be eligible for membership. We will attempt to work around class schedules and campus conflicts but work is not an excuse. If you have any questions, contact the College Panhellenic Council at firstname.lastname@example.org. After attending the events you are invited to, you will choose which two sororities you would like to visit for the Preference event held on Friday.
12:30pm-3:45pm (ending times may vary based on invitations)
Preference Round (September 7th): This round is more formal and structured than the previous nights. This is the last chance you have to talk with the chapters, so be sure to address any questions you may still have. Each event is scheduled and only open to those who receive invitations. Attendance at all Preference Night events to which you are invited is mandatory to be eligible for membership. We will attempt to work around class schedules and campus conflicts but work is not an excuse. If you have any questions, contact the College Panhellenic Council at email@example.com. After attending the events you were invited to, you will fill out a Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement within one half hour and once it is submitted no changes can be made.
10am-1:15pm (ending times my vary based on invitations)
Tonight is the night that bids are handed out! You will also find out to which chapters your recruitment counselors and Panhellenic Executives belong. Chapters will have shirts to hand out to new members so wear something you can easily slip a t-shirt over. Be prepared to spend the afternoon bonding with your new sisters! Sometimes chapters stay at their houses or on campus, other times they travel to a local park or museum to celebrate their newest sisters and the return of their members from Panhellenic and Rho Chis! Either way, Bid Day is a fun celebration and marks the first day of your membership as a sorority woman!
