FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES: INTERNAL AWARDS PROGRAM

UM-St. Louis is the only UM campus that offers its own competitive internal awards programs along with the University System’s Research Board program.

UMSL SMALL GRANTS FUND
The Small Grants Fund is designed to strengthen faculty research and creative activities. Awards given up to $1,000 in the following categories: Conference Expenses for professional conferences at which the applicant will present; Equipment and Research Supplies; and Professional Development initiatives to enhance the research capabilities of faculty.

UMSL RESEARCH AWARDS
UMSL Research Awards are meant to strengthen faculty research and creative activities, support is provided for research assistants, equipment, supplies, travel to research locations, and salary support in amounts up to $12,500.

UM RESEARCH BOARD
UM-St. Louis faculty also have the opportunity to submit proposals to the UM Research Board,whichis designed to enhance the long-term quality and quantity of scholarship throughout the University System by supporting meritorious research projects. An important goal is to leverage external funds by UM faculty by supporting promising new faculty and funding high quality new initiatives of senior faculty.

INDIVIDUAL OR COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS: $3,000 to $50,000 for individual or collaborative projects. Proposals may request salaries for personnel who are integrally involved in performing the research or creative activity.

SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY APPLICATIONS: With a funding range normally above $50,000, a few major grants may be awarded as investments in new initiatives that show outstanding promise for enhancing the quality, stature and recognition of scholarship at the University of Missouri. When there is a demonstrated need, the Board will consider special opportunity applications that request less than $50,000, e.g., in the humanities.
