  • GRANT SUBMISSIONS NOTE: Grants.gov is running extremely slowly, causing many proposals to not be submitted on time. To ensure on-time submission, please bring your final proposal to the ORA at least one day prior to the deadline. For more information, contact Brenda Stutte (x 5897)

  • Online Information and Opportunities Related to the "American Recovery and Investment Act of 2009" Check the ORA web site for updates.

  • UMSL Professor Receives 2008 Best Article Award. Dr. Edward Lawrence, Professor of Finance at UMSL's College of Business Administration, is being recognized by the Western Economic Association International (WEAI) and the editors of the WEAI's journal, Contemporary Economic Policy, with the 2008 Best Article Award for "A Comparative Analysis of Payday Loan Customers" (co-author Gregory Elliehausen, Board of Governors, Federal Reserve Board). The paper was published in April 2008.

The award will be formally presented during the Presidential Luncheon at the 84th WEAI conference (June 29 - July 3, 2009, Vancouver, B.C.).

  • IT Enterprises to Launch Open Source "ProofLab." IT Enterprises at UM-St. Louis, in partnership with Sun Microsystems, is developing an open source lab that will allow companies the opportunity to test real applications in a safe and supported environment separate from their own production environment. For enterprises that are contemplating a move to open source software or have an ongoing commitment to open source, participation in the ProofLab will reduce risk initially and as their use of open source software grows. Sun is providing $250,000 in servers and software for this initiative.

  • "Discover UMSL" comes to IT Enterprises. The UMSL community is invited to visit and hear about the University's new small-business incubator for IT and biotechnology companies and its high performance computing (HPC) center.

  • MOgene to Move Operations to IT Enterprises
This emerging biotechnology company, which signed a lease with the University's new business incubator in February, is focused on understanding the mechanisms of cellular and organismal toxicity of chemical compounds and applying the knowledge to improve safety and efficacy of products across life science industries. MOgene, LC, uses a systems biology approach to understand gene function in the context of biological networks in order to develop assays and biomarkers for molecular diagnostic solutions that would help address toxicity issues. The company provides microarray services including custom design of arrays, experiment design and detailed bioinformatics analysis. MOgene began work building out their office and lab space at IT Enterprises in late February.

  • Has a discovery or invention come from your sponsored research or during your time as a University employee? Please contact Tamara Wilgers (516-6884) for help with invention disclosure policies and procedures, or visit the ORA web site's technology transfer section.
