  • UM Stimulus Funding (ARRA) Awards Summary
    The Office of Research Administration (ORA) will post updates as received on the ARRA page of the ORA web site. Below is a summary of awards through 07/31/2009:

  • New DOE ARRA Grant Opportunity. The Office of Science at the Department of Energy announced a new grant opportunity funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for support of the Early Career Research Program. The purpose of this program is to support the development of individual research programs of outstanding scientists early in their careers and to stimulate research careers in the areas supported by the DOE Office of Science. Specific program areas include: Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR); Biological and Environmental Research (BER); Basic Energy Sciences (BES); Fusion Energy Sciences (FES); High Energy Physics (HEP); and Nuclear Physics (NP). Commercialization Corner

  • Dr. William Lemon joined IT Enterprises in July as Director of Scientific & Computing Services. His responsibilities include the HPC Center, IT infrastructure and services for the incubator, and ITe facility management. Lemon comes to the University from his role as Academic Dean at Missouri Tech and holds a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, along with a master's in bioengineering and bachelors in electrical and computer engineering. His office is at IT Enterprises, and he can be reached by phone at 314-824-2002.

Other News of Interest

  • Administrative Burdens Stifle Faculty and Erode University Resources. According to a recent survey by the Federal Demonstration Partnership (FDP), on average faculty are spending 42% of their federally-funded time on administrative matters that do not include proposal writing. Two decades ago, that number was only 18%. This heavy commitment of researchers’ time to administrative functions is a terrible waste of faculty time and government money.   • Einstein bot: E = mc smile. Albert Einstein has come back to life in the form of a robot with a bushy mustache and a highly expressive face. Especially noteworthy is that rather than requiring manual programming, robo-Einstein has taught itself to smile, frown, and grimace. CNET News (07/14/2009)
