  • Internal Funding Opportunities at UMSL - Deadlines Set for AY 2008-2009
    To help researchers establish new fields of research, fund work in areas not normally funded by external agencies, or increase their potential for external funding, UM-St. Louis offers two campus internal award competitions and administers one University System-wide funding competition.
    NOTE: The UM Research Board online application form will be posted on Sept. 8, 2008. Guidelines are already posted.

  • Infected Galápagos Penquins Could Get Avian Malaria
    A parasite has been found in Galápagos Penguins, raising fears among researchers that it could lead to avian malaria, a disease that contributed significantly to the 50 percent extinction rate of endemic birds in Hawaii. The discovery resulted from a long-term study to monitor diseases in Galápagos birds, conducted by researchers from the University of Missouri, St. Louis, the St. Louis Zoo, Galápagos National Park and the Charles Darwin Foundation.     It is commonly accepted that punishments meted out for scientific misconduct (falsification, fabrication, or plagiarism) effectively end one's career, banishing the bad apple for violating the trust that the scientific community confers on its members.
