UM Research Board Revises Special Opportunity Project Guidelines
UMSL Office of Research Administration (ORA) Welcomes New Accountant Melissa Laurenti joined the ORA in October. She will work with both pre- and post-award accounting, assisting with proposals and setting up projects and time extensions. She will also process subcontract payments and review EVRs and PI certifications. Full ORA Staff Listing

Federal Circuit Hands Down Much-Anticipated Biz Method Patent Case This extremely important case significantly reins in the scope of patentable subject matter as to business method patents. Moreover, the "process" standards set forth in Bilski will require careful drafting of applications relating to computer and data-based inventions.
UM System IP Fast Track Award The UM System's IP Fast Track Awards will be announced Dec. 15, 2008, and reported in the January 2009 ORA Newsletter. The award offers up to $50,000 for each of up to three awards at each UM campus to help transfer commercially viable discoveries to the market.
