- UMSL Professor Recognized as Edelman Laureate
David Ronen, Professor of Logistics and Operations Management, College of Business Administration, was recognized last month at the practice conference of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) as an Edelman Laureate and was presented with the Franz Edelman Medal. Authors of finalist papers for the Franz Edelman Award are recognized as Edelman Laureates for their significant contribution to work that is selected as representative of the best applications of analytical decision making in the world.
- The Inaugural Gateway to Innovation Conference drew 400+ regional business, technology, civic, educational and political leaders to showcase achievement within St. Louis high-tech industries and enhance the region's visibility as a technology hub.

UMSL's Mary Lacity, Professor of Information Systems, College of Business Administration, is honored with the Gateway Innovator 2008 Award for having received national media coverage for her work in information technology.
Also at the conference, three UMSL students were awarded an MIS Scholarship, established by the Society for Information Management (SIM) - St. Louis to promote continued growth and interest in information technology. Students Jeff Burton (senior, marketing and MIS double major; Express Scripts intern), Bakari Cooper (senior, IS major), and Annah Thieya (senior, IS major; Monsanto co-op), all received a $1,000 scholarship, which was matched for $500 by Chancellor Tom George, bringing each award to $1,500.
Chancellor George served as an Honorary Advisor for this year's Gateway to Innovation Conference, and Tamara Wilgers, Director of Technology Transfer and Senior Grant Writer, served as a 2008 Event Committee member. |
