Economic Development

WELCOME

Economic development is an important part of the University of Missouri’s mission:

The mission of the University of Missouri, as a land-grant university and Missouri’s only public research, doctoral, and professional degree-granting institution, is to discover, disseminate, preserve, and apply knowledge. The University of Missouri, through its four differentiated campuses and a health care system, promotes learning, fosters innovation to support economic development, and advances the health, cultural, and social interests of the people of Missouri, the nation, and the world.

UM-St. Louis is helping transform Missouri into a knowledge-based economy dependent upon innovation and entrepreneurship. The ORA works to develop and maintain start-up business incubators; facilitates the transfer of technology from the University to the marketplace; and works with the community in collaborations to start, attract, nurture and maintain high-growth companies.

Look through the Economic Development section for information on University and regional business incubators and research parks, along with community collaborations in which UMSL is involved to help build the region. This is also where you can find information about starting a company.

Don’t forget to visit the Technology Transfer section for information on the early stages of economic development – the development, protection and commercialization of University technologies.
