Admission and Assistantships

 

Admission

The Creative Writing Program at the University of Missouri - St. Louis accepts applications each fall and winter until our deadline of January 15. Below is a brief overview of our application requirements.

  1. Writing Sample
  2. Online Application
  3. All Undergraduate Transcripts
  4. Letters of Recommendation

If applying for Teaching/Tutoring assistantship you will also need:

  1. Application for Teaching Assistantship
  2. Sample of Critical Work
  3. GRE Scores (General Test)
  4. Teaching Statement

Assistantships

The UMSL English Department provides a limited number of teaching assistantships and tutoring assistantships for MFA students. These assistantships are available for up to two years. In addition to receiving a stipend (approximately $10,000 per academic year, or $5,000 per year, depending on assignment), teaching assistants receive 100% remission of their tuition costs (though they do pay incidental student fees).
