The UMSL MFA Curriculum - A Total of 39 Credit Hours

  • 15 Hours of Workshop Classes. Twelve of these hours must be taken in your genre (poetry or fiction)

  • 3 or more hours in Form and Theory (writing craft seminar)

  • 3 or more hours of Literary Journal Editing (Natural Bridge)

  • 3 hours of MFA Thesis

The remaining hours can be taken in graduate level literature, composition, or linguistics classes.
