UMSL nursing faculty share their stories during National Nurses Week

National Nurses Week is celebrated each year from May 6-12 to recognize the dedication and impact of nurses across the health care profession. During this year's celebration, UMSL Nursing was proud to spotlight three faculty members who shared their journeys into nursing, experiences within their specialties and passion for educating future nurses! 

Marina Fischer, DNP, APRN, FNP-C 

An assistant professor at UMSL and owner of Intentional Living Primary Health Care, LLC, Fischer reflected on her journey to becoming a nurse practitioner and educator. She shared how returning to St. Louis after Hurricane Katrina led her to a change her nursing specialty while completing her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at UMSL.

Krishna Almeria, MSN, RN 

One of UMSL Nursing's newest faculty members, Almeria is a certified pediatric nurse at Children's Hospital. She discussed her passion for pediatric nursing, what inspired her to enter the profession and her desire to support future nurses through teaching!

Josh Minks, PhD, NP-C 

A professor at both UMSL Nursing and UMSL Pierre Laclede Honors College, Minks shared his nursing journey and passion for empowering the next generation of nurses. As a proud UMSL alum, he enjoys teaching students across both undergraduate and graduate nursing programs!
