STUDENT URGES REPRESENTATION IN SGA ASSEMBLY

by Steven M. Wolfe

Do you want to make UM-St. Louis a better campus? Then, you can have a chance by becoming an elected representative in the Student Government Association assembly. You are a part of the problem if you do not get involved and help make this campus a better place.

The SGA assembly consists of the president, vice president and comptroller as well as both elected representatives and organizational representatives. The organizations are required to send representatives in order to receive funding. These representatives primarily represent the interests of their members. Members of student organizations are only a minority of the students who go to school here.

However, the position of elected representative is the biggest secret on campus about the SGA. Why? While there are approximately 25 seats allocated to the various colleges and schools, these seats are rarely filled or contested in elections.

Here is your chance to make a difference in the life of your campus. Go up to the Student Activities Office 267 University Center and fill out an application to become a member of the Assembly by March 20.

The benefits? By serving as an elected representative, you will have a chance to make a difference on campus. Besides, extracurricular activities such as the SGA are a boost to your resume when you are looking for a job.

The future of UM-St. Louis depends upon the involvement of its students. Don't be a part of the problem, be a part of the solution. Get involved in the SGA and help make UM-St. Louis a better place. If you can't run for office, don't forget to vote on April 8 and 9.
