Program Overview

The MBA is available in two UMSL|NOW formats: the FlexMBA (formerly evening MBA) and the Professional MBA (an accelerated Internet-enhanced weekend program). All programs are fully accredited by AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the premier accrediting body in collegiate business education. The MBA programs are designed to prepare students for administrative and professional positions. They also provide an appropriate foundation for students contemplating doctoral work and eventual careers in college teaching and research. The programs admit students with bachelor’s degrees from accredited institutions, including those with undergraduate backgrounds in the sciences, engineering, humanities, or arts as well as business.

The FlexMBA Program

Our Flex MBA is designed to educate a well-rounded business professional. The program may be completed entirely in the evening or students may choose to take courses offered in an online or hybrid format. Whether you want a general, broad-ranging business background or an emphasis in a specific discipline, our curriculum is flexible enough to give you the MBA you want.

Through the FlexMBA, business concepts are integrated by a course in strategy formulation and implementation in the final semester of study. There is no thesis requirement; however, students interested in undertaking an individual research project may earn elective credit by enrolling in a supervised independent study course.

Depending on the student’s previous background, the FlexMBA program will range from 30 to 45 hours. Coursework must be completed within a six-year period. At least 2/3 of coursework must be taken while enrolled as an MBA candidate at UMSL.

Professional MBA Program

A weekend-based Internet-enhanced version of the FlexMBA program, the Professional MBA program is an alternative to the traditional part-time evening program. This program is a 21-month, 42-credit-hour program for professionals with busy work or travel schedules. Students meet on campus monthly, with the remainder of the interaction between instructor and students taking place online. Students proceed through the program as part of a cohort and complete the requirements for the degree in less than two years. An international trip of 7 to 12 days is a degree requirement and takes place during the second year of the program.

This means that our curriculum remains up to date and relevant to your eventual job search. Of graduates who responded to a 2015 survey conducted by UMSL Career Services, 100% of accounting and 92.5% of all UMSL Business undergraduate alumni had a job or were pursuing a graduate degree within 6 months of graduation.
