The Local Government Partnership is a collaborative effort between University of Missouri- St. Louis Public Policy Administration Program, East-West Gateway Council of Governments, University of Missouri Extension and the Public Policy Research Center.

The Partnership is integral to the mission of the Public Policy Administration Program as it serves MPPA students pursuing an emphasis in local government and careers in the public sector. The LGP also offers a Graduate Certificate in Local Government Management, that can be earned as part of the degree program or as an independent credential.;

Part of the LGP mission is to provide graduate students in the Masters of Public Policy Administration Program with opportunities to study and develop a working knowledge of local governments that will be valuable for future career endeavors. Program topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Resources
  • City Administration
  • Urban Politics
  • Public Finance
  • Intergovernmental Relations

The LGP provides two courses within the MPPA program offered in conjunction with the St. Louis Area City Management Association as part of the Local Government Management emphasis area.

This program links the university community and the local government professional community, providing opportunities for our students to interact with local government management professionals and to more easily locate local government information and data.

The Partnership also provides job and internship guidance and opportunities, and a graduate assistantship.

In addition, the Partnership serves a resource in the Saint Louis region and statewide through which senior local government officials can access quality information, assistance, and training that will enhance the capacity of their local government officials to address and respond to existing and emerging constituent and governmental needs. We offer non-credit courses and other training opportunities for government officials and others working in the area of public administration/local government.
