Graduation Application Policy
To better assist students and confirm graduation eligibility, students are required to notify their academic unit of their intended graduation date. This notification allows advisors to begin the degree check process and approve the student for graduation.
Students must officially apply to graduate through the self-service Student Center in MyView. View the full graduation guidelines.
Application for Graduation Process
- The application for graduation initiates the degree-check process.
- It is recommended that students apply one year in advance to ensure all requirements will be met.
Note: Some colleges may require this. Please consult with your academic advisor. - The application must be completed according to college-specific deadlines.
Graduation Application Deadlines
- Fall Term: October 1
- Spring Term: March 1
- Summer Term: June 1
If a student does not complete the graduation application process by the posted deadline, the diploma will be awarded in the following semester. In extreme circumstances, a student may appeal to the dean’s office after missing a deadline.
Changes to Anticipated Graduation Date
- Students who need to change their graduation date must notify their academic unit and re-submit the application through MyView.
- The new application will replace any previously submitted information.
- All deadlines for the new semester of graduation apply.
Final Grades
To graduate at the end of a specific semester, all coursework and any delayed grades from previous semesters must be completed. Final grades must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar by the official semester grading deadline.
Graduation, Commencement, Diplomas, and Honors
- Graduation is the process of completing degree requirements and occurs three times a year—at the end of Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters.
- Commencement is the ceremony celebrating graduation and is held twice a year, at the end of the Fall and Spring semesters.
Note: Summer graduates may participate in either the prior Spring or following Fall ceremony. Participation in commencement does not confirm graduation. - Diplomas are ceremonial documents representing the degree earned. The official academic record is the transcript.
