Asbestos Management

 

This section of Environmental Health & Safety coordinates the testing and abatement of asbestos containing materials on UMSL property. All removal and abatement is conducted according to rules and regulations set forth by State and local requirements, in accordance with Federal EPA regulations.

Asbestos is abated only when required for renovation, remodeling or maintenance. This usually involves replacing flooring, repairing plumbing or anything else that contains asbestos. Emergency abatement is conducted when asbestos has been accidentally disturbed--usually because of damaged asbestos containing pipe insulation.
