Subject: Authorized international business travel

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

In a recent email update from the Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer for the UM System, Brian Burnett, http://www.umsystem.edu/newscentral/infocus/2014/09/19/international-travel-for-the-university/, the following information about international travel insurance was provided..

We have secured services for authorized international business travel. There is no cost for these faculty/staff international business travel resources. Please use this letter as proof of coverage for visa applications that require proof of evacuation and repatriation coverage. The U.S. Department of State has a site with country specific information including if a visa is needed for your destination.   Click here for the coverage summary snapshot.

The services are provided by MEDEX and AIG WorldSource and include the following:

  • MEDEX provides 24-hour travel, medical and security-related assistance services to you while traveling Please note this IS NOT medical insurance.
    • Please download the brochure with the full program details and your identification card to take with you during travel (faculty and staff ID card 8/1/2014 – 7/31/2015; or student ID card 8/1/2014 – 7/31/2015). This is an overview of services, for full details refer to the Program Descriptions.
    • The MEDEX Member Center allows you to have complete management of your MEDEX program, including printing MEDEX ID cards, opening a case online, and reading the details of your MEDEX program coverage. In addition to MEDEX program information, the Member Center gives you access to:
      • MEDEX 360°m Global Medical Monitor: complete international health information
      • MEDEX 360°tr Travel Registry: travel and medical record storage
      • World Watch - detailed international security information.

    • AIG WorldSource & Assistant provides toll free and collect telephone numbers for travel related assistance available 24-hours a day, 7 days a week for needs such as:
      • Medical Emergency Services
      • Lost Baggage/Passport
      • Evacuation and Repatriation
      • Legal Assistance
      • Language Interpretation
    • While the Travel Assistance Program provides assistance in securing Medical Emergency Services, it does not provide payment for these services. Health care providers in some countries expect payment in advance before admitting or treating patients - even if your health insurance provides coverage in foreign countries. It's strongly recommended that all travelers plan for financial emergencies by carrying a credit card and/or information on whom should be contacted in the event it is necessary to make financial arrangements to pay for treatment.
    • Coverage Territory: Anywhere in the world, excluding the United States of America, its territories and possessions, Puerto Rico, Canada and any country or territory for which a U.S. governmental embargo, sanction, or ban is in effect.
      • Reporting Claims: If you need assistance during your trip please contact the numbers on your ID cards for initial filing of a claim for services. If you have questions or need assistance in filing a claim please contact Risk & Insurance Management

You should download the program brochure and ID cards for both MEDEX and AIG WorldSource and may find this information useful as you plan your authorized international business travel.
