UMSL BJC Summer Nurse Externship

Overview

We invite you to our summer nurse extern program that is a collaboration between University of Missouri-St. Louis School of Nursing and the BJC Health Care Systems. This 10 week program provides the senior nursing student with an outstanding clinical experience at some of the nation's top hospitals.

The BJC HealthCare hospitals participating again this year are some of the country's best facilities, including Barnes Jewish Hospital, an ANCC Magnet hospital that is ranked #11 in the nation by U.S. News and World Reports guide to America's Best Hospitals. U.S. News & World Report ranked Children's Hospital as one of the nation's top children's hospitals in all of the seven specialties rated, and Children's Hospital is ranked #5 in Parents magazine's 2011 survey of the "10 Best Children's Hospitals" in America, and it is an ANCC magnet Hospital. Barnes Jewish St. Peters and Christian Hospital are stellar community hospitals that deliver excellent nursing care to a broad-based patient population.

Externs will be coached by seasoned nurses, working side-by-side in hospitals where the newest medical advances are coupled with excellence in nursing care. The weekly seminar includes clinical experts from these facilities presenting current therapies, discussion on professional issues relevant to students preparing to enter practice, and time for students to debrief and share their week's experiences.
