Introduction

When most people hear the term "decision support system", they think of financial calculations and forecasting of sales.  However, decision support systems can be much more than financial systems that analyze sales.  A decision support system is any system that aids the user in organizing and analyzing data in support of a decision.  On the Internet today, decision support systems exist for consumers in many different forms.  These systems can be used by consumers to decide what computer or car to buy, or even the best route to take when planning a road trip for a vacation.  The Home Depot offers such a system to consumers on the Internet in the form of "Design Tools" that are available to aid consumers in making design decisions.
