First Year Experience

As the Admissions Office examines the records of first time freshman applicants, there are instances where a student may be missing one of the admission criteria, but may still be a worthy candidate for admission. These students are admitted conditionally for the Fall Semester , and are required to take the Freshman Success Seminar. This is a one-hour course for which a letter grade is issued that counts in the student's cumulative gpa, but for which credit is not applicable toward a degree. This course is open to other students who choose to enroll, and may be a requirement for some student groups.

This course is taught as Interdisciplinary 1002 Freshman Success Seminar by professional staff in the Center for Student Success and other Student Affairs staff. The course description states:

An introduction to technologies and knowledge required in navigating the terrain of higher education, to improve their academic performance, to help determine their strengths and goals, and to encourage them to implement strategies to enhance their personal, academic and career success. Topics will include study skills, time management, test-taking skills, library skills, career development, financial management, health issues, and diversity awareness.
